Communication for Change Amongst Youth - Requires Support

Dear Friends,

Solidarity Centre is carrying on a Communication for Change program called Openspace, focused on the Change Processes amongst Youth, to enhance values of justice, equity and diversity, and responsible sexual behaviour amongst them. This program is aimed at creating empowered, healthy and innovative youth energies.

We undertake various communication processes under this program .. seminars, film screenings, theatre workshops, debates, art and writing workshop, digital communication tools like camera, video, blogging , social networking, capacity building, study circles, exposures, and campaigns through a networking approach.

Openspace has an email base of more than 500 to whom the events details are sent – http://groups.google.co.in/group/openspace-ranchi. A blog is also maintained regarding the program - www.openspace-ranchi.blogspot.com

For carrying out these activities targeted at the youth in the urban and semi-urban areas of Ranchi and nearby, we require support in the form of printing / distribution educational material for the youth, financial support to take care of refreshments and hall arrangements, equipments like projectors / camera/ laptap, and theme specific resource inputs from experts.

Our Upcoming Event is Rang De Basanti – Video Festival on Diversity and Aspirations to be organized at Satyabharati Hall, Purulia Road, Ranchi on 13^th March 2010 (Saturday). The cost to the event will be approximately Rs 8000, of which we have been able to generate 40%. We call for your support to the process as an individual or organization, in small or in big way.

Solidarity Centre is the coordination institute established by the registered Trust – Solidarity for Peace. The Bank Account of the Trust is in Ashok Nagar Branch of State Bank of India (A/c No 30826235873) in the name of Solidarity for Peace. Thematic Position Papers

Dated – 24^th August 2009

Dear Friends,

Solidarity Centre has been established by the Trust Solidarity for Peace in the recent days. The vision is to create an institution which builds understanding, interventions and alliances on various themes relevant to the social-political lives of the people, human rights being the basis.

Towards this effort we have decided upon the following:

1. To prepare Position Papers on the following themes
1. Gender and Social Inclusion
2. Community Health
3. Labour and Livelihoods
4. Democracy and Rights
5. Media and Communications
6. Arts and Culture
2. To organize a two day seminar in the month of February 2010, in which the papers will be presented for feedback.

As the efforts towards preparation of this work are voluntary, self initiated and self resourced, we call towards your valued contribution in the preparation of the same.

The theme papers will comprise of the situational analysis of the theme and our position on it based on the rights and empowerment perspective. These will be approximately of 15 pages, to be completed by December 2009.

We intend to take these documents forward in the future years as base paper, and hence take it as an important process, towards building social analysis.

You may contribute by being part of the Working Group on any or more particular themes, and writing, communicating your ideas, organizing thematic meets or making financial contribution to the process.
